Candlemas

Please join us this Thursday, February 2, at 5:30 p.m. for a special Candlemas Sung Mass (Missa Cantata) celebrated in the Extraordinary Form (Latin). On this day, the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus and is also known as Candlemas day, since the blessing and procession of candles is included in the liturgy. According to the 1962 Missal (the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite), this day is referred to as the "Purification of Mary." It is also known as a "Christmas feast" since it points back to the Solemnity of Christmas. Many Catholics practice the tradition of keeping out the Nativity creche until this feast.

A special table will be set up for you to bring your own candles to be blessed.
