Sacred Heart of Jesus

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I write to you today wishing you many blessings for the upcoming Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which will be celebrated this Friday and also the Solemnity of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, celebrated this coming Saturday. With our Blessed Lord and His Immaculate Mother watching over us, we will weather the storm that we are currently in.

I’d like to update you on how things are going with our partial re-opening. For the past three Sundays, our Masses have had between 60 - 100 people. I thank all of our volunteers who are doing such a great job with counting, ushering and sanitizing. We are still hoping to get a few more volunteers to help with lectoring, sanitizing pews and ushering for the 5:30 pm Sunday Mass. We have received several offers from people who will act as volunteers and are waiting for a few more to come forward before we can safely re-start that Mass.

Just a reminder, doors will be closed and locked when all Masses begin, so please, get to Mass early! We will also be reducing the number of live-stream Masses offered. Please see the red box above. Holy Communion will only be given to those who were unable to get into the church and who watched the livestream outside (reminder: only after the Saturday 6:30 pm Spanish Mass, the 10:30 am English Mass and the 1:30 pm Latin Mass.) What about the future? The weekday 6:45 am Mass will start up again in August. (The Tuesday evening Latin Mass was reinstated last week and will continue to be offered.) As time goes by and our numbers grow, we will open up the Msgr. Becker Center for the overflow and telecast the Mass there. Holy Communion would then be distributed after Mass is over. I will let you know at least a week ahead of time when this is going to happen.

The bulletin will be restarted when parish life is back to normal, meaning that groups are meeting again, fundraisers are happening, etc. Until then, this form of communication will have to suffice. Finally, I am including a link to a letter written on The Feast of the Holy Trinity by Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano to President Trump. Archbishop Vigano served as the Papal Nuncio to the United States from 2011- 2016. He is known as a man of great integrity. In the letter, he points out the grave danger the world and the Church are in today. As Sister Lucia (the only one of the Fatima Seers to live to adulthood) noted in a 1957 interview, “The devil is in the mood for engaging in a decisive battle against the Blessed Virgin.” Read the full letter here.

I urge all of you to read it, so that you can realize the gravity of the situation we are in today.

—Fr. Epperson
